Last week Florida Voices for Progress and Broward for Progress helped to mobilize a letter drop and rally at the offices of Senator Rubio and Senator Scott in Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Tallahassee. Occupy Democrats picked up the story of how his office called Security on us for dropping off letters in Miami: . Not deterred, Laurie joined others a few days later to visit Senator Marco Rubio’s house to a do a letter drop:

Lastly, Laurie wrote a letter to the editor about the experience, check it out:

Medicaid Expansion in Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis turned down billions of dollars and left out millions of people when given a chance at Medicaid expansion. We now have a real opportunity to bring Medicaid expansion to Florida but need your help.

Congress can use the process of budget reconciliation with a majority vote to expand Medicaid in Florida. Can you please sign this letter of support and share with your networks: or

Immigration Update in Florida

We can walk the walk by showing up or sending support to help the situation at ICE Miramar. Please join the Circle of Protection every Wednesday from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at ICE Miramar (park at 14475 Miramar Parkway, Miramar FL) to hand out water and snacks to people doing their check-ins. We have an Amazon wishlist that you can also make a donation to, and we deliver everything we get when we go there every Wednesday. You can also make a donation via Paypal to help with our expense of water and juices (we will send you a reciept).

The immigration update in Florida: we still are fighting for TPS, for dreamers, for respect and dignity at ICE Miramar and other facilities, we still have people stuck in Mexico under Title 42. Enough is enough.

Here is the video of activists being threatened with arrest for handing out water:

Last week we were threatened with having our cars towed by Royal Carribean despite them allowing us to park there for the past few years.

Children are still being held in unacceptable conditions in detention. Join us tonight for a candlelight vigil from your home.

When: Monday, 7/12/2021, 8 PM

Where: In your homes, hearts & communities.

Why: Children seeking legal asylum are still being held in detention in 'Heartbreaking' conditions in US migrant child camp

Please share a picture with your light on your social media posts with the hashtags #DontlookAway and #LightsforLiberty so that we can amplify each other and demonstrate to the Biden Administration, and the world, that we will not stop fighting until all migrant children are treated humanely.

Here is the place to post your pictures on Facebook:
